Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the Organizing committee of the International Symposium Intracellular Signaling in Plant and Animal Systems, we would like to invite you cordially to attend this Symposium in Kyiv, Ukraine, September 9-14, 2001.

The main objective of the symposium is to present comprehensive and up-to date reviews of recent achievements in the field Intracellular Signalling in Plant and Animal Systems and to promote scientific discussion and comparison of current research findings of INTAS projects.

The suggested topics are:

1) General questions of intracellular signalling;
2) Molecular bases of signalling systems;
3) Second mediators of intracellular signalling;
4) Spatial and temporal effects of calcium signaling;
5) Hormones and growth regulating factors in cell communication;
6) Photosensory receptors and signal transduction.
7) G protein coupled receptors and lipid signaling;
8) Protein kinases and signal transduction;
9) Participation of proteins in signal transduction;
10) Intracellular signalling and gene expression;
11) Gravity perception and signal transduction;

The special attention will be concentrated on signalling functions of calcium, downstream effects of ligand binding, protein kinase cascades, phosphorylation and dephosphorylation of proteins, cell adhesion molecules and signalling, cellular signalling with reactive oxygen species and nitric oxide, glycobiology of signal transduction, intracellular signalling and gene expression, regulation of ion channels, intracellular signalling and second messengers in plant cell and their relation to phytochrome transduction, nitric oxide and stress proteins interrelation, identification of novel targets for prevention of apoptosis, molecular mechanisms of learning and memory formation, gravity perception and signal transduction.
The program will include lectures by prominent scientists in these fields of study and will be completed with lectures selected on the basis of abstracts sent in advance and poster sessions.
The cultural and social program will offer the participants an opportunity to visit some of the important landmarks of Kyiv.
The Kyiv transport and travel agency will ensure the transport services, accommodation, pre- and post-symposium tours and also the Social and Cultural Program.
We look forward to seeing you at the symposium and we hope that you will take this opportunity to spend some inspiring and enjoyable days in Kyiv, not only for scientific reasons but also to see some of the beautiful sights of Kyiv.
A Second Circular will be distributed and will contain detailed information about the program, call for abstracts, forms for registration, and information on accommodations.

If you are interested in receiving this Second Circular, please provide us with your complete name, address, e-mail address, before July, 1, 2001.

The official language of the conference is English.

 1.       Andriyivsky Uzviz ( Descent of St Andrew )

One of the most famous and oldest street in Kyiv which is known and beloved by all tourists

because of many souvenirs and pictures they can buy there, and of course because of the

picturesque St Andrew Church at the top of the hill. Not far from  this place is situated ..

2.       St Michael Golden-Domed Cathedral - the most beautiful cathedral in the whole city. The bell-tower over the wide square with the monument of Ukrainian princess Olga on it is not very high - the highest one belongs to ..

3.       Kyiv Pechersk Lavra Monastery with labyrinth of caves from 9th-11th century and the Church of Assumption in the center is the real pearl of the city. There will be the longest excursion because of many amazing places on the territory of Monastery. It's one of the most ancient places in Kyiv; the other one is..
